ALFIE Barbeary’s hopes of being selected for England’s Six Nations squad have been dashed by injury.

The former Banbury Bulls youth player is set to miss the next six weeks after injuring his ankle in Wasps’ 26-23 Premiership win over Sale.

Barbeary, who grew up in Deddington, will see a specialist to find out if he needs surgery.

The 20-year-old had been tipped as a contender for Eddie Jones’ squad after bursting onto the scene in 2020.

He scored a hat-trick on his full debut against Leicester Tigers in September and has starred at hooker and Number 8.

The youngster was called up to the England squad for this month’s Autumn Nations Cup final against France, although he was not included in the final 23.

With the Six Nations starting on February 6, Barbeary will be forced to wait a little longer to win his first cap.
