OXFORD City Stars head coach Kenny Redmond hailed the attitude of his side after they thumped struggling Lee Valley Lions 13-1, writes JACK SALE.

The one-sided success at Oxpens maintains their English National League South Division 2 title ambitions, keeping the pressure on the three teams ahead of them.

But Stars, who have games in hand on all of their rivals, knew they could not afford to slip up against their visitors, who prop up the table.

And Redmond was delighted with the focus shown by his side.

“Before the game we asked for good attitude,” he said.

“It’s hard going into matches like this, playing a team at the bottom of the league and thinking it’s going to be easy.

“Effort comes from attitude, so I wanted their attitude to be right.

“We didn’t play to our full potential, but we are happy with a big result.”

Conor Redmond led the way, doubling his season’s tally when scoring four on the night.

The gloss was added to the victory with Max Florey and Adam Harris chipping in with their first goals for the club.

Stars got off to a flier, scoring three quickfire goals in the opening period.

With just 90 seconds gone, Lee Richardson opened the floodgates with his 16th of the season.

The lead was doubled two minutes later through Harris and it was soon 3-0 when Tom Davis converted.

Lee Valley, who had lost all 15 previous games, scored what turned out to be their only highlight when Thomas Hnilica netted.

However, Stars’ three-goal cushion was re-established before the end of the period when Michal Oravec scored unassisted.

The hosts added to their tally soon after the restart through captain Darren Elliott, Conor Redmond’s first of the night and Florey.

Dominic Hopkins then got in on the act to make it 8-1, before Conor Redmond scored two quickfire goals to complete his hat-trick, making it 10-1 to the Stars at the end of period two.

The final stage of the game was less frantic, despite Oxford starting with a five on three advantage thanks to two Lee Valley penalties.

But they were unable to add to their tally until five minutes from time when Alex Staples scored.

Redmond then grabbed his fourth to make it 12-1 before Joe Edwards rounded off the scoring with just under two minutes remaining to complete a convincing success.
