GORING produced a career-best performance for Blewbury trainer Eve Johnson Houghton to complete a hat-trick of course-and-distance wins at Lingfield.
The six-year-old gelding responded well to Charlie Bishop’s urgings to hold off Surrey Hope by a neck and claim his third successive mile handicap on the Polytrack.
Bishop was also in the saddle earlier in the week at Lingfield as Pattie returned from a break to follow up her Chepstow win in August for West Ilsley owner-trainer Mick Channon.
The four-year-old shot through a gap to claim a seven furlong fillies’ handicap by a length and a quarter from Soul Silver.
Channon said: “That was great to see and there’s plenty to look forward to with her.
“We messed up a bit last year believing that she’d be best over middle distances, but once we realised that she’s best used over a shorter trip, it became clear that she’s a very straightforward individual.”
Sovereign Duke got off the mark for Wantage trainer Henry Candy with a thrilling success at Kempton.
The three-year-old colt finished powerfully to pip Albishr by a head in the final stride of a mile novice stakes under Fran Berry.
