VIILLAGERS in the Hanneys are gearing up for their annual dose of pantomime fun.

They have been rehearsing hard for this year’s seasonal offering Babes in the Wood — oh, no, they haven’t, oh, yes, they have — and are hoping their show wil be as good, if not better, than those that have gone before.

Lots of laughs are assured for the audience as the Hanney Drama Group members take to the stage for the show packed with all the usual characters — the hero, the baddie and the dame etc — and great musical numbers.

The wealthy Sheriff of Nottingham, played by Nigel Kilbey, is planning to make himself even richer by preying on the Babes, Pip and Penny (Bob Bulpitt and Val Henderson).

They have been recently orphaned and are heir to a great fortune, but for the Sheriff to succeed in his dastardly quest he will have to overcome folk hero Robin Hood, played by Catherine Tysoe. And Robin can count on the help of his love interest Maid Marion (Ellie Godfrey) and his loyal band of followers, Little John, Will Scarlet, Alana Dale and Friar Tuck, played respectively by Bryan Procter, Pete Osman, Charlie East and Bob Wilson.

He might also gain the help of the scatter-brained Fairy Nitwit (Jean Sutherland), Nurse Mollycoddle (Iain Gray) and Dangerous Dave (Mike Page).

Completing the cast as a dopey baddie duo Block and Tackle are Sue Wise and Lynn Cox.

The show is directed by Graham Hart, the musical director is Catherine Bulpitt and the choreography is by Lynda Hart. Providing back-up for the songs is the men’s chorus of Jim Henderson, John King and Mark King and their female counterparts of Catherine Bulpitt, Amy Godfrey, Olwen Goss, Mary Morris, Carole Moss and Nicky Gibbard.

The show, which was penned by Damian Trasler, David Lovesy and Steve Clark, is being performed at Hanney War Memorial Hall, East Hanney, from Thursday to Saturday, February 6 to 8, at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2pm.

Tickets, £8 full price and £6 concessions, are available from St James the Less House or Hanney Community Shop, both in East Hanney, by calling 01235 868780 or emailing: karongray99@yahoo.com
