FANS of a popular village music festival had better make the most of this year’s event as it will be the last one in its present form.

Members of the organising committee of Wittfest 2014, the 15th annual Wittenham Charity Music Festival, are standing down after this year’s event due to other commitments or families moving away.

But fans of the festival, due to take place at The Plough Inn in Long Wittenham from Friday to Sunday, June 13 to 15, should not be too downhearted as it still could be held again in future years if different organisers come forward.

This year’s festival will again see the widest possible range of music acts giving their time and talent free, whether on the main stage, busking or in sessions. Popular acts include the Crossfire Hurricanes, Folklaw, C U Tuesday, Pete Orton and Musikissmo. Entrance to the event is free. It is funded as usual by sponsorship and pre-festival raffles held at The Drones’ regular Wednesday night music sessions at The Plough.

Over the past 15 years, the festival held in the pub garden has raised about £30,000 for a range of charities including Against Breast Cancer, Age Concern and the Thames Valley and Chilterns Air Ambulance.

Most of the organising committee standing down have been involved with the festival since its inception.

Last year, the event raised more than £3,300 which went to help the Dorchester-based Footsteps Foundation, which provides physiotherapy for disabled children, and Pets as Therapy, organising therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes by volunteers with their own dogs and cats. This year’s festival will raise money for Young Dementia UK, which works in Oxfordshire with people affected by young onset (under the age of 65) dementia and their families, and Pets as Therapy.

Bonita Glanville-Morris, on behalf of the Wittfest Committee, told the Herald: “We’d like to thank everyone — the performers, sponsors, donators of raffle prizes, stewards, helpers and all those who have come along to support Wittfest over the last 15 years — it’s been wonderful.”

The festival, which starts at 6pm on the Friday and runs until 6.30pm on the Sunday, has the following line-up of acts: Friday, June 13: The Drones; Sarah Knowles; Ady Davey; Moeity; C U Tuesday; Saturday, June 14: Pete Orton; Cats Chorus; 3Play with Nina; The Ramblin’ Boys; Bluebird; Rod Smith; FolkLaw; GinSwing; Shakedown Prophets; Goin’ Loud; Little Tricks; Baker’s Brew; Crossfire Hurricanes; Sunday, June 15, Cry Havoc Morris; Oxford drum troupe and Ashnah; Shady Grove String Band; Geoff, Linda and Jim; Creaky Knee; Rory Evans; Musikissmo and Telstarz.
