Some 15 artists from Wantage and the surrounding area showed off paintings and drawings at the town’s museum.

The artists, all members of Wantage Art Group, held their annual exhibition at the Vale and Downland Museum from August 25 to September 5. Among the exhibitors was group chairman Geoff Williams, who gave his granddaughter Zara Clement-Jones a crash course in art at the show.

His own exhibits included a watercolour of Venice, made from a photograph he took on a visit to the city.

Wantage Art Group has run monthly demonstrations, exhibitions and occasional workshops in Wantage for 25 years and new members and visitors are always welcome.

Mr Williams, 72, said: “We have fascinating professional demonstrators from whom we always learn something and it doesn’t matter if you’re an expert or total amateur, you’ll find something to enjoy.”

Today, the group will host a talk from BBC natural history producer Roger Jones on his second love – painting seascapes.

The talk will be held at the Charlton Day Centre from 7.30pm, and cost £5 for non-members.

Membership for the group costs £25 a year and an extra £2 for each meeting.
