MP organises housing meeting

Herald Series: Nicola Blackwood Nicola Blackwood

MP NICOLA Blackwood has organised a public meeting to discuss plans to build 160 homes off Abingdon’s Drayton Road.

The Oxford West and Abingdon MP said she was concerned residents felt they were not being properly informed about the application by Hallam Land Management (HLM).

She said: “There are already significant traffic problems in Abingdon at peak times and any proposed development needs to be adequately tested and residents’ concerns heard before any decisions are made.”

In its planning application, Hallam said the estate would increase traffic by at least 100 cars at peak times in Drayton Road. The application states: “A development of this scale is anticipated to generate in the order of 113 vehicle trips in the am peak and 100 vehicle trips in the pm peak.”

Hallam spokesman Andy Birch said: “HLM are pleased that residents will be offered a further opportunity to express their views ... The well attended pre-application public exhibition we held identified a number of key issues, traffic congestion being the one most discussed.”

The public meeting will be held on Saturday at 10am in Abingdon Guildhall.

Hallam refused to say whether one of its representatives would attend.

You can have as many meetings as you like. You can voice as many concerns as you like. You can discuss the traffic problems. It will still go ahead. It may get slightly delayed, a few reports will fly around about traffic & flooding, the reports will come back and say that extra drainage will be added, the traffic will cope because people need to use more public transport Blah Blah Blah. I am sure someone will pull out the limited housing card for poorer families as a percentage of the housing will have to go to them. Then they will build it....its all about the cash!!!!!!....and cakes filled with favours to be cashed in later.

What opportunist hypocrisy from the Oxford West and Abingdon MP. It was her Government that introduced the change in planning law that has encouraged the carpet baggers and property speculators to stick the snouts into the now open gravy chain. As for consultation, forget it because the PR organisations driving this sort of planning applications will.
