A HOSPITAL radio station has won two awards at national ceremony over the weekend.
The station is run entirely by volunteers and has been broadcasting since 1967.
Presenter and programme controller Ian Pinnell won the Gold Award for 'Male Presenter of the Year'.
He said: “I couldn’t believe it. When they ran down the Bronze and Silver winners, I told myself that I hadn’t won it, but when they read my name out for Gold, I was in utter shock. I can’t remember much after that, although I’m told I walked the long way around to get to the stage, it’s very surreal but I’m extremely pleased.”
The station also won Silver in the category of Station of the Year. The award was collected by chairman Neil Stockton, who said: “It’s a fantastic result of all the hardworking volunteers at Radio Cherwell, who work together to produce some of the best programmes to be heard on Hospital Radio."
The team were also shortlisted in the 'Best Programme with Multiple Presenters' Category and 'Station Promotion'.
