BEN Blakeley told a prison nurse “I’m a celebrity now” and wanted to watch himself on TV after he was arrested, a jury has heard.

Yesterday, staff from Bullingdon Prison gave evidence about what Jayden Parkinson’s killer said while the search for her was ongoing.

The head of the outpatient department at the prison near Bicester, Cally Brinsley, said the 22-year-old repeatedly brought up Jayden’s death, telling her he “never meant this to happen”.

But she added after saying this Blakeley seemed to want a reward for giving her information and asked: “Can I have a TV now?”

The witness said: “He wanted to watch himself on the news and see what was going on. He was very jovial in his behaviour.

“He would answer a question from me and that if he provided the correct answer he would say ‘can I have a TV now please?’ “That was all he spoke about.”

She also said he told her: “I’m a celebrity now, Miss.”

After this Blakeley shouted “that’s a lie, that’s a lie” and refused to stay in the dock in Oxford Crown Court.

Describing his reaction to learning that Jayden’s body had been found Ms Brinsley added: "He was in quite an excited state, as if he was expecting exciting news, and then he asked about the TV again - that was his main priority."

She said Blakeley had been issued with a bible in Bullingdon and wrote inside the back cover: "RIP baby. I will miss you always. I am sorry xxx. I am sorry, sorry."

Ms Brinsley said there was a heart drawn on the page with the letters "J" and "B" inside.

Also found in the bible was a newspaper cutting with the headline: "Jayden mother's nightmare."

In the afternoon the jury was played a police interview with Blakeley on December 4 - the day after he killed Jayden - following his arrest on suspicion of taking indecent images of her.

Asked how often he saw her he said: “I speak to her now and then. I try and see her as little as possible because she does drama like this.”

And questioned about whether the couple were on good terms he told police: “Yes we are on good terms.”

Blakeley admits manslaughter but denies murdering Jayden on December 3 last year after she told him she was pregnant with his child.

Both he and a 17-year-old have both pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by burying Jayden's body in an existing grave in a cemetery next to All Saint's Church, Dicot, on December 18.

The 17-year-old denies one count of preventing a lawful burial.

The trial continues.
