A THREE-storey house has been almost completely destroyed after a fire ravaged through the building. 

Fire crews are investigating the cause of the blaze which broke out in Greenfield, Christmas Common on Saturday night. 

Dramatic pictures released by the fire service show the flames tearing through the building, known as Patterson House.

No one was inside at the time and crews were alerted by passers-by. 

Firefighters from Wallingford were called at 9pm and on arrival found the fire had swiftly taken hold. 

Quick action using high pressure hoses allowed around 40 per cent of the building to be saved. 

Crews remained on scene overnight and through until today to ensure that the fire was fully extinguished and demolition is now in progress.

Station Manager Patterson said: “The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, which was noticed by members of the public.

"They called 999 straight away, which allowed the Fire and Rescue Service to save a significant portion of the property.

"Crews from across the Thames Valley, supported by officers from Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service, worked well together to resolve this incident safely.”
