An Oxford orchestra will perform two pieces which share a connection and are particularly meaningful to their conductor.
Scheduled for April 20 at 7.30pm in St Andrew's Church, St Giles Orchestra will perform Dvorak's New World Symphony, and William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony.
The two works were composed 40 years apart but are linked by their strong influence of Spirituals.
The orchestra's conductor, Dwight Pile-Gray, a PhD student studying the influence of African music on 20th century African American composers, said: "I am a passionate advocate of diversity within classical music.
"I work hard to promote the music of all under-represented groups."
The night will also include Mr Pile-Gray discussing his research on the William Grant Still symphony.
St Giles Orchestra will also be performing Bizet’s popular L’Arlesienne Suite No 1.
