Abingdon's Market Place has won an award following its £360,000 transformation last year.
Abingdon Town Council received the award from the Oxford Preservation Trust, which recognises projects which make a contribution to the conservation and improvement of Oxfordshire.
The Abingdon Market Place refurbishment saw basalt setts relaid in a firmer setting, with the levels raised to allow the steps opposite County Hall to be removed and the pavements widened.
New street furniture was also installed, including benches, hanging baskets and litter bins.
The award was presented by the trust's chairman, Sir David Yardley, who congratulated the town council on its use of natural materials.
Councillor Julie Mayhew-Archer, chairman of the Market Place refurbishment working group, said: “We are delighted to have received this award and that the hard work that went into the design and implementation of the refurbishment has been recognised.” She thanked Mike Habermehl, of Adams Habermehl Environmental Design Partnership, based in Sutton Courtenay, for designing and overseeing the work.
Council leader Lesley Legge pointed out: “This town council project was actively supported by the Vale of White Horse District Council and Oxfordshire County Council, and staff from the three councils worked well together to bring the plans to fruition."
