A MAN with eight previous convictions for 19 offences was handed a 24-week prison sentence for racially abusing a police officer.

Krystian Kulikowski, 29, of Linden Road, Didcot, lashed out at the sergeant at Abingdon Police Station because he had to watch him urinate.

Kulikowski later apologised when he realised the officer had to watch him at all times because police had not yet done forensic tests on his hands.

He was sentenced for the racially-aggravated harassment charge, which he admitted, at Oxford Crown Court on Friday.

Prosecutor Merril Hughes told the court he was arrested and charged with assault and damaging property on April 13 – a charge which was later dropped.

She said he was taken to Abingdon Police Station overnight where Sgt Granville Williams was told to observe him at all times.

When this meant the sergeant had to watch Kulikowski use the toilet, Kulikowski called him a “black c***”.

Miss Hughes told the court that the defendant was still in the operational period of a 12-week suspended sentence for a previous assault when the incident happened.

Kulikowski admitted this was the case.

His defence barrister Claire Fraser said: “There was a background of alcohol in this case as there has been in his other offending, and he has expressed he deeply regrets what he said.”

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pringle activated the 12-week suspended sentence and handed him another 12 weeks on top making 24 weeks in prison in total.
