More than £35,000 worth of environmentally-friendly Christmas lights will be twinkling in Abingdon following a special light switch-on ceremony.
On Tuesday, at 7pm, the town will be aglow with star-themed street lights, hanging candle shapes and a giant Christmas tree.
The array of lights — of which 1,500 are new this year — will be switched on during the Abingdon Victorian Extravaganza in Market Place. The winners of Abingdon’s Got Talent — Jay Boender, Edmund Quigley and Paul Burkett — will jointly press the switch and a fireworks display at 8.15pm will complete the celebrations.
Town clerk Nigel Warner said that the town council had spent a total of £35,000 on this year’s light display.
He said that the latest lot of lights meant that all of the town’s bulbs wer now energy efficient.
