THE organiser of a “nearly-new” sale that has raised thousands of pounds for charity has been recognised with an award.

Nicky Brock arranged the event for the Abingdon National Childbirth Trust and has been named the south central winner for fundraising success of the year.

The mum-of-two and town planner was given the award after takings at the most recent sale, usually held at John Mason School twice a year, broke the £10,000 mark for the first time.

Mrs Brock, mum to Lewis, three, and Jamie, one, said: “In the two months leading up to the sales it’s quite a lot of organising and the sale itself is a long day.

“I am supported by a big team of volunteers on the day and a much smaller team leading up to the event.

“I am delighted.”

Mrs Brock first became involved in the charity about three-and-a-half years ago when her first son was born in 2009, attending one of the NCT’s antenatal classes in preparation for the birth.

Along with the other regional winners, Mrs Brock will go to a national award ceremony on October 31 at the House of Commons.

The next Abingdon sale will be at John Mason School, Wootton Road, on October 6 at 10.30am.
