Branson heads county's rich list again

Virgin boss Richard Branson, left, has once again been named as Oxfordshire’s wealthiest person in The Sunday Times Rich List.

Mr Branson, who has a house in Kidlington, has had a good year, climbing three places over the past 12 months.

He is now worth £3.4bn, putting him in 16th place overall, and his wealth has grown by £325m.

The list is published each year, ranking the richest men and women living in the UK.

Firoz Kassam, who owns Oxford United’s home ground as well as Heythrop Park near Chipping Norton, saw his wealth grow by £15m but dropped 25 places.

He is now worth £217m and sits in 359th place.

Meanwhile the Duke of Marlborough, whose family owns Blenheim Palace near Woodstock, is in 718th place and valued at £105m, up £5m from last year.

He is just below Sir Frank Williams, owner of Formula 1 team Williams which is based in Grove, who has jumped 21 places to 682 and is now worth £110m.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson, who went to Headington School, is in 17th place in the richest young people list.

The 22-year-old is worth £26m.

Oxford Brookes University graduate Jonnie Shearer is a new entry at number 30 among the richest young people after his natural energy drink Pussy gave him a wealth of £8m.

Britain’s richest man is steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, who is worth £12bn.
