Oxford United handed potential home FA Cup tie in third round

Oxford United will host Sheffield United in the FA Cup third round next month, if they can win their replay against Accrington Stanley.

The U's drew 3-3 at the Crown Ground yesterday and the sides will meet again at the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday, December 12.

There will be plenty of incentive to progress, with Sheffield United visiting the winner.

United met the Blades in the first round last season, losing 3-0 at Bramall Lane.

The third round ties are scheduled to be played on the weekend of January 5/6.

I have been a critic of Chris Wilder this season but I have to say his emotional and genuine comments on the radio after the cup match did him great credit. Regardless of what I think about some of the things he has done at the end of last season and this season his obvious devotion and passion for the club make him a worthy manager. I will be far r less critical in future.

scraping a draw against Accrington has a small positive in that players didn't give up like they have done in numerous league games this season. I would expect to win replay given the 5-0 four weeks ago. ultimately I'm not bothered about the cup although a 4th round tie away to a big prem club would be great (assuming we beat Sheff Utd). Promotion is or should be the goal this season and we're only 7pts from a relegation spot.

I'd like to think the comeback against Accy is a turning point but only a decent run of league wins can confirm that. I remain unconvinced that Wilder can change in any dramatic way but as ever I'll be happy to be proved wrong.
