London Welsh do not expect to move their training base to Oxford for at least two years, chief executive Tony Copsey (pictured) has confirmed.
Speaking of their commitment to Oxford, the Exiles announced in a press release last month that they had “embarked on the search for new training facilities in the area”.
Copsey, however, stressed this was not a high priority for the Aviva Premiership club.
“There’s a lot of rumours running around London Welsh,” said Copsey. “But the complete focus is on one thing – Premiership survival.
“Any talk about anything else is quite well ahead of the game.”
He added: “Oxford and Oxfordshire is where we see our future.
“But I don’t see us moving our training ground from Old Deer Park for at least another two years.”
Copsey said that while other departments of the club could move to Oxford more easily, relocating the playing side would be tougher.
“It is going to take time to search for a training ground,” said Copsey.
“That could take up to 12 months in the first place.
“If things come across our radar that we think are an opportunity, we have got to look at them.”
