Ramone Smith just missed out on a place in the men’s 100m final at the Sainsbury’s British Championships on Sunday.

The 31-year-old broke his own Radley club record when clocking 10.35secs for fourth place in his semi-final at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Smith, who is known as Chips, held a fastest qualifier spot for the final until the third semi where athletes benefited from a stronger tailwind.

This helped Deji Tobais (10.23) and Kieran Daly (10.31), who finished third and fourth, make it through, so Smith missed out by 0.04secs.

Smith had lowered the Radley record to 10.46 earlier this summer.

Radley chairperson Kay Reynolds said: “There appears to more to come from Chips as he has just recovered from a slight hamstring injury which he picked up at the Bedford Inter-national Games at the end of May and could have improved both his start and finish.”

Radley’s Carolyn Plateau was seventh in her heat of the women’s 800m in 2mins 6.51secs.

Teammate Emma O’Hara, , threw 55.74m in the hammer to finish 11th.

Radley’s Rosie Kingston finished fifth in her 100m hurdles heat where she clocked her second fastest time with 14.70.
