NEAL Ardley’s only gripe in his side’s win over Oxford United was AFC Wimbledon’s slender margin of victory.
The U’s went ahead through Rob Hall, but Wimbledon were in front before the half-hour mark thanks to Dean Parrett’s shot which rebounded in off Simon Eastwood and a free header from Sean Kelly.
Eastwood went on to make three outstanding saves, keeping the result in doubt until the final seconds.
The Dons had some anxious moments late on, but their manager felt anything other than a home win would have been a travesty.
Ardley said: “They started a bit brighter than us for the first 15 minutes, but if I’m honest there was one team which thoroughly deserved to win.
“Their goalkeeper has made two or three one-on-one saves.
“Their goal was a shot from outside the box, they have had a little bit of pressure but the possession stats are even.
“We are meant to be the long-ball team apparently and the chances we had were far better than theirs.”
He added: “I was gutted to not come in 3-1 up at half-time. We should have gone on to win the game by three or four.”
