THINGS are looking ominously good at Oxford United so far this season, with progress on the pitch being matched with positive news off it.

From the football side of things, six wins from the opening eight games in Sky Bet League One have seen United rise to second in the table, while the style of play has gained plaudits and entertained fans in equal measure.

Last week saw the club take another important step in its search for a new stadium, after Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet agreed to lease land at The Triangle.

As if that wasn’t enough, the positivity continued yesterday when skipper Elliott Moore signed an extended deal with the U’s.

In doing so, he became the fourth player since the season started (Simon Eastwood, Stephan Negru and Gatlin O’Donkor being the others) to commit to longer contracts at United.

Others will surely follow, and Marcus McGuane will be near the top of the club’s list to sign fresh terms after making an impressive start to the campaign.

Although the midfielder’s current deal expires next summer, it is understood to have a one-year option.

As the U’s have shown with Moore, whose contract was not due up until the summer of 2025, acting ahead of the curve has been the way to go.
