DES Buckingham says his Oxford United side will not have its attention diverted by a forthcoming crunch week as they prepare for this weekend first.

United travel to Burton Albion tomorrow, ahead of what will almost certainly be a massive six days in the team’s quest to finish in the Sky Bet League One play-off places.

Following the Brewers game, the U’s then welcome fellow promotion rivals Peterborough United, Lincoln City and Stevenage on April 13,16 and 19 respectively.

Asked whether it means there is added pressure to get a victory this weekend, United head coach Buckingham responded: “Never take attention away from what’s right in front of your face. That’s very much the approach that we take, and that’s the approach we’ll take into this weekend.

“Those three games only become more important once we get through this weekend, and we get the result that we’re all pushing and striving for.

“If we do that, then it sets up what will be a very good three home games, where we’ll need to be together, and I mean fans, staff and players pushing together.

“We’ve seen the impact that can have, and we saw that on Monday.”
