DES Buckingham says Oxford United will be taking no notice of Burton Albion’s poor run of form when the sides meet this afternoon.

The Brewers sit bottom of the Sky Bet League One form table over the last 10 games, with just one win and two draws during than run.

In fact, the Staffordshire outfit haven’t been able to pick up three points in their last nine matches.

That miserable form has seen the Brewers drop to 20th in the League One table, and are just one point above the relegation zone.

However, United head coach Buckingham says his side won’t be letting Burton’s struggles impact how they prepare for the game this afternoon.

He said: “They’re sitting just outside that relegation zone and they’re fighting for their lives, and for points.

“We’re doing exactly the same but for very different reasons. You take no notice going into the game, in terms of form.

“You’re going to their pitch, their home, but we mustn’t focus too much on them. We’ve spent a lot of time in the last couple of weeks looking at what we do and how we do it, and we’ll continue to do that.

“It’s now about building on what we did at Port Vale, the draw against Shrewsbury where I thought we should’ve won, and then the four goals, three points and clean sheet on Monday.

“It’s about making sure we build on that to make sure we put ourselves in a strong position to finish the season.”

Buckingham meanwhile is due to come up against a familiar face in goalkeeper Max Crocombe, having worked with him on two previous occasions.

Crocombe made a handful of good stops in the reverse fixture, as Buckingham claimed his first league victory in charge of the U’s.

Buckingham said: “I coached Max as an 18-year-old boy, and he came here to us from MK Dons.

“We took him from there, and he worked with Chrissy Allen and myself, and progressed to the fist team, and played a couple of games before leaving.

“I actually played against him over in Australia. I was with both Wellington [Phoenix] and then Melbourne City when he signed for Melbourne Victory.

“I’ve had a couple of games playing against him, as well as working with him, and then I got the fortune of working with him in the national team in New Zealand.

“We’ve crossed paths many a time, firstly as a player here, then playing against each other, and then on the international scene.

“He’s a good goalkeeper and we showed that in the home game against us, with some wonderful saves.”
