DES Buckingham wants to see his Oxford United side continue playing in the same attacking vein which has seen them record back-to-back 4-0 victories.

The U’s followed up their handsome win at home to Fleetwood Town on Easter Monday with a commanding three points at Burton Albion.

Mark Harris handed United a first half lead, before three goals in 12 minutes came in the second period, courtesy of strikes from Harris, Josh Murphy and James Henry.

U’s head coach Buckingham said: “We spoke about a squad arriving at this point in a strong position, with players coming back.

“It was a very enjoyable afternoon, with four goals again. We showed that cutting edge and clinical side that was missing for a little bit.

“We knew that would come, but now it’s about making sure we continue through. We’ve got a good and exciting week coming up with three home games, and we all need to be together – fans, staff and players.

“The fans were great today and I’m just pleased we were able to put on a show for them.”

United now wait a week before their next game, with then three crucial home matches against fellow promotion contenders in the space of six days, as the U’s take on Peterborough United, Lincoln City and Stevenage.

Buckingham said: “It was going to click. We were a matter of time away from it, and now it’s making sure with those three games in six days, that we take this into them.

“We’ll continue to play the way people have seen in the last few games. It’s become quite exciting to watch, whether it’s the wide players or playing through the middle.

“We’ll continue to play that way, and it’s making sure we add that final piece to those three home games.”

On the win against the Brewers, Buckingham added: “It makes me laugh when you win the game and people say you should’ve won it because of where the team is in the league.

“That’s the reality of football, that’s what it is. We’ve come to a team here that are hovering above relegation and fighting, and they have fought for points today.

“They’ve made it difficult, but we’ve got what we deserved today with our own performance, rather than worrying about them.

“It’s another win, it’s another three points, and it puts us back into the play-off spots, which is where we want to be, and now it’s in our hands.”
