CIARON Brown is excited to see what the run-in holds for Oxford United, as the team looks to secure a spot in the Sky Bet League One play-offs.

The U’s are sixth in the table, two points clear of nearest challengers Lincoln City, but face a crunch week ahead.

United welcome Peterborough United, Lincoln and Stevenage to Grenoble Road within a six-day period, with all three opponents harbouring promotion aspirations of their own.

Brown said: “We’ve put ourselves in a good position coming to the end of the season and we’re only going to look at Saturday, and go for the three points which will put us in good stead for the remaining fixtures. Our eyes are only on Saturday.

“It’s exciting as a player and a fan coming to the business end, knowing that some games are six-pointers, and if you win, you can run away with it, and if you lose, you can fall away.

“It’s about trying to stay level-headed and take it game by game, and pick up as many points as we can.

“When you’re at the business end of the season, and playing teams that are around you, it means a bit more because a win can put you further away from the teams around you.

“It’s probably a lot more important now, but it’s about being confident and taking each game as it comes.

“All the boys have confidence going into the game and the manager has big confidence in us. We’ve just got to take that confidence and bring it Saturday.”

Brown has formed a healthy centre back partnership with Elliott Moore in recent months, with the duo starting at the heart of the back four in 11 of the last 14 games.

“In any position, it’s nice to have some sort of stability, but also we have loads of players that fight every day in training,” said Brown.

“We have players than can easily slot in and slot out, and we’ve got competition for places.

“As a player, you love stability, but you’ve got to earn it. With Elliott, we’ve built a good relationship and we play really well with each other, but we have good players.”

The signings of Greg Leigh, and then Joe Bennett, have also allowed Brown to play the majority of his football this season in his preferred centre half position, as opposed to left back.

He said: “I came here as a centre half and last season played at left back, which I thought I’d done well at and done a job for the team.

“It’s nice to play centre half though, as that’s my position and you see most of my qualities at centre half, and you get the best out of me. As a player, I enjoy it more at centre half.”
