Osman Muskwe missed out on a place competing for Great Britain after his passport was not ready in time.

The Radley athlete had hoped to represent Britain in the decathlon at this weekend’s European Cup Combined Events Super League in Tallinn, Estonia.

But the Zimbabwe-born 27-year-old, who won the English title earlier this month, must now wait longer for his international debut.

“My British passport was not ready in time,” said Muskwe. “It was no one’s fault.”

Muskwe, who is a soldier based at Abingdon’s Dalton Barracks, saw his likely place go to Francis Baker, whom he beat at the English championship in Bedford.

l Abingdon’s Dan Hamilton set a new 5,000m best when finishing fourth in a British Milers Club (BMC) meeting at Eltham.

Hamilton, 21, clocked up 15 mins 30.15secs to continue his good progress in 2013.

l Noel Blatchford was the first lady home in the British Masters Athletic Federation (BMAF) 10,000m Walk Cham-pionships at Horspath.

Abingdon’s Blatchford clo-cked 1hr 3mins 31secs, also taking gold in the vet 65 category.

Clubmates Marc Juffkins (V45), Pete Stepney (V50) finished fifth in their respective BMAF pentathlon competitions also held at Horspath.
