Radley's Kathryn Woodcock went sixth in the UK under 17 discus rankings as she helped Team Oxfordshire to victory in the Youth Development League.

Woodcock, 16, threw a personal best of 40.95m in the Midland Premier 2 third round meeting at Tilsley Park, Abingdon, and added victory in the under 17 girls’ hammer (30.20) for good measure.

Her double was matched by clubmate Emma O’Hara in the under 20 ladies’ competition.

O’Hara, who is ranked second in the UK for the hammer, threw 53.84 for victory in that event and took discus victory in 37.38.

Team Oxfordshire, which comprises Abingdon, Radley, White Horse Harriers and Oxford City, beat Nottingham by 11.5 points on the day and now top the table with one round to go.

Other impressive performances included Radley’s Edward Burgess winning the under 20 men’s 110m hurdles in 15.3secs.

White Horse Harrier Ben Claridge won the under 17 boys’ 800m in 2mins 5.9secs.

Lucy Hooper (Radley) won the under 20 ladies’ high jump in 1.45 and finished second in both the long and triple jump with personal bests of 5.20m and 10.65m respectively.

Radley’s Jess Anstice took the under 20 ladies’ 1,500m steeplechase in 6.51.5.

l Paul Fernandez was Abingdon’s leading runner in the CPM Thame 10K with a third-place finish.

Fernandez clocked 33mins 52secs in a race won by his regular rival James Bolton (Woodstock Harriers), who recorded 32.32.

l Didcot Runners’ Paul Thomas was fourth man home and first vet 50 in the 10k Airbase Race at Heyford.

Thomas recorded a very creditable time of 36mins 45secs.

l Noel Blatchford won Abingdon’s annual Hendred Handicap race.

Vet 65 lady Blatchford completed the 5.5-mile course in 49mins 32secs, while Richard Kemp recorded the fastest time with 33.25.

The run was originally organised in memory of Jonathan Cousins, who was killed in a road traffic accident.

All proceeds from the run and raffle will be donated to a charity nominated by his family.
