One week after David Murphy secured Abing-don Vale SC’s first ever medal at the British Gas National Age-Group Cha-mpionships in Sheffield, the club acquired three more at the weekend.
Two of them were won by Murphy’s elder brother Alex, who gained a silver in the 100m breaststroke and and a bronze in the 200m breaststroke.
Murphy, 18, broke the county and south east regional record with a time of 1min 2.65secs in the 100m breaststroke.
He also broke the county’s 200m breaststroke mark with his 2.18.79, while his 50m breaststroke time of 28.96 secs was a regional best.
Niall O’Leary completed Vale’s tally by obtaining a silver medal in the 200m backstroke. O’Leary, 16, produced personal best of 2.06.27 as well as reaching the semi-finals for the 100m backstroke (59.75). These are both club records.
This is testament of the hard work and focus coach Scott Farnell has put into the club since arriving from Australia three years ago. Farnell commended the hard work all his youth swimmers put into turning in such good results.
He said: “Hard training as well as commitment and dedication has paid dividends.”
