Wallingford recovered from 45-4 to pull off a convincing 77-run win at home to Horley in Cherwell League Division 4.

The game was turned on its head by a 190-run fifth-wicket partnership between Warren Ainsworth (95) and Mark Carey (89no), who lifted the hosts to 231-5.

Seamer Colin Allen (5-43) and left-arm spinner John Brannan (4-59) dismissed Horley for 154.

Didcot replaced Great & Little Tew 2nd at the top, despite being held to a draw at home to East Oxford.

Rain reduced the Didcot innings to 42 overs, but they still racked up 232-2 led by Henry Brisland (68no) and Connor Morrison (54no).

The visitors reached 216-7 from their 36 overs in reply, Atif Ali top-scoring on 58.

Matt Warner hit an unbeaten 50 and then took 5-24 as Kingston Bagpuize drew with Witney Mills.

Martin Shepherd made 44 in Kingston’s 173-7 from 43 overs, and Mills were hanging on at 108-9.

Challow & Childrey collapsed to 72 all out on their way to a nine-wicket defeat at home to Tiddington, for whom seamer Sam Hollingshead captured 5-30.

The hosts’ decision to bat first in the Division 2 game looked sound when they reached 30 without loss from six overs.

But a rain delay did them no favours as they managed only 42 more runs on their return to the crease.

Aussie Luke Stutter top-scored with 30 as the home side fell for less than 100 for the second time this season.

Matt Maule’s 32 helped Tiddington reach 74-1.

Abingdon Vale collapsed to a 63-run defeat at Wolv-erton Town as their batting failed again.

The home side’s modest highest total of the season – 141-9 – was more than enough to see off Vale.

Charles Smook took 3-32 for Vale, who promptly slumped to 78 all out, just seven days after they were blown away for 54 at home to Challow.

No one had an answer to Idrees Butt (5-37), who collected his third five-wicket haul of the summer, and Zaheer Khan (4-16).

Abingdon Vale 2nd closed the gap on the Division 5 leaders by thrashing Kimble in a match that finished at 5.30 despite three rain delays.

Jason Cardy (3-12) and Luke Mitchell (3-29) put the visitors in early trouble, and they were soon all out for 69. Vale made it three wins on the bounce by cruising to 70-2.

Four rain delays in the first seven overs frustrated Chall-ow & Childrey 2nd away to Twyford 2nd.

George Hook captured 6-52 in Twyford’s 178-9, Jason Heslington then claiming 6-26 as Challow were reduced to 83-9 from their 28 overs.

Abingdon Vale 3rd secured an unlikely 39-run win over Oxford Downs 3rd in Division 7.

In a match reduced to 35 overs a side, Vale limped to 109-1. Phil Evans carried his bat for 39 not out, with Stuart Cardy managing 35.

The total looked well below par, but Rob Berry (4-12), Armand Halgreen (3-12) and Adrian White (3-38) bowled their side to victory.

There was a thrilling climax in Division 8 where Wallingford 2nd’s clash with hosts Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd finished in a draw with the scores level.

Stuart Edwards (54), Mark Cox (36) and James Hopkins (30) shone in Wallingford’s 178-5, while Robert Seymour (4-28) was the pick of the bowlers.

Donald Hare (88) and Graham Nelson (43) led Shipton’s reply, which closed one run short of victory on 178-7 as Ricky Prescott took 4-23.
