Didcot Town’s new management team of Ian Concannon and Jamie Heapy started with a stunning 6-2 home victory against Clevedon on Saturday.

With only two previous Calor League Division 1 South & West wins this season, things began ominously for the new incumbents when Reeko Best fired home for the visitors inside three minutes.

But an own goal from Sam Teale brought the Railwaymen level shortly afterwards.

Kameron Abbassi headed the hosts in front from a corner on 17 minutes as the home side started to take control.

However the visitors should have equalised when Ibz Diallo struck a post from close range.

On the stroke of half-time Ben Whitehead almost nodded Didcot further ahead but his effort was saved at full-stretch by Joseph Wollacott.

John Mills scored Didcot’s third on 50 minutes following a pinpoint through ball by Taylor Janes.

Luke Carnell was upended in the penalty box by Teale three minutes later, and Pablo Haysham made no mistake with the penalty to make it 4-1.

The game always had a little bit of an edge to it and it was perhaps a surprise that both sides managed to finish with 11 players on the pitch.

In the closing stages the goals kept coming.

Haysham rammed home from 20 yards before Matt Thorne scored a consolation for Clevedon from the penalty spot.

But the goal of the game came on 87 minutes when Ben Whitehead fired high into the net from the edge of the box to make it 6-2.

The last time Didcot had scored six times in a game was five years ago, when Stuart Peace’s side beat Burnham by the same scoreline.
