A second-half double from new signing Conor McDonagh gave Didcot Town a 3-1 victory away to last season’s play-off finalists Larkhall Athletic on Saturday.

Didcot took the lead five minutes before the break, when Adam Learoyd volleyed home following Marvin Martin’s free-kick.

Larkhall were gifted an equaliser when a mix-up between Leigh Bedwell and Luke Carnell saw Darren Jefferies head home.

Just after the hour , Didcot’s new strike partnership of McDonagh and Mark Janes combined for the former to slot in his first league goal for the club.

He got his second, and sealed the points for Didcot, when he beat two defenders and looped a shot over Larkhall keeper Kyle Phillips.

Wantage Town, fielding five debutants, went down 1-0 at home to newly-promoted Slimbridge.

In an even first half, home keeper Gareth Tucker tipped a Slimbridge shot over the bar.

The only goal came in the 54th minute, when a free-kick was poorly defended by Wantage and Adam Mace powered a drive past Tucker.

Wantage upped the pace and Sam Barder and Piers McGlynn were denied.

l Former Didcot striker John Mills scored a hat-trick on his debut for Hereford United in their 4-1 success over Dunkirk in the Midland League.

Pablo Haysham, who also played for the Railwaymen last season, got their fourth.

l A youthful Abingdon United side went down 3-0 at home to Oxford City Nomads on the opening day of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division season.

Connor Harris put Nomads ahead midway through the first half and five minutes later made it 2-0 with a fierce strike.

Abingdon conceded another goal in the 65th minute when Ryan Barney bent a free-kick around the wall.

A depleted Letcombe lost 4-1 away to Cheltenham Saracens in Division 1 West. Tom Stone scored their only goal.
