WANTAGE Town manager Daniel Barry resigned after his side’s 3-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Wimborne Town on Saturday.

The loss leaves Wantage fourth bottom, with only goal difference keeping them outside the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West relegation zone.

Barry, who has seen his side decimated by injuries, stood down after just a year in charge, with assistant Ian Lovegrove also going.

Barry said: “The job over the last few weeks has been very difficult, so something had to give.

“Ian and myself feel the team need a fresh approach and we hope someone new can take the team forward and build on what we have started.

“I really hope they find the right person to push the club on and deliver the success everyone at the club deserves.”

Wantage went behind in the first minute at Wimborne, when Carl Preston scored.

Then on half-time Jamie Davidson made it 2-0. A goal in the 79th minute from Morgan Turner condemned Wantage to another defeat.

George Reid missed early chances for Abingdon United in their Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division game at Lydney who won 3-1. Elliott Powell scored for Abingdon.

Goals from Tom Rowe and Luke Faircloth gave Letcombe a 2-1 win at home to Clanfield in Division 1 West.
