Didcot Town were left to rue failing to make their dominance count as title-chasing Cinderford Town departed with a 1-0 win in the Evo-Stik Southern League on Saturday.
The Railwaymen were the better side in the opening exchanges of the Division 1 South & West clash, but it was Cinderford who took the lead against the run of play midway through the first half.
Lee Smith struck hard past debutant keeper Billy Collings, who was brought in from Reading’s academy to cover for the suspended Leigh Bedwell.
James Keeble and Adam Learoyd went close as Didcot upped their game.
In the second half, Mark Janes missed a golden chance to equalise.
Despite coming off the back of two consecutive 5-0 wins, Didcot could not find their scoring boots.
Janes thought he had netted, but his shot off the underside of the bar was adjudged not to have crossed the line.
Didcot Town: Collings, Collins, Martin (Barney 85), Self, Carnell, Learoyd, Keeble (Longford 71’), Woodhouse (Edney 80), Janes, Reid, Dutton-Black. Subs not used: Organ, Ballard.
Attendance: 147.
Wantage Town followed their 4-0 defeat by Yate in midweek with a 3-0 loss at home to Mangotsfield United on Saturday.
