Didcot Town’s 1-0 victory at Bridgwater Town in the Evo-Stik Southern League on Saturday was marred by a serious injury to James Keeble.

The midfielder, signed last month, broke his leg in the 17th minute of the Division 1 South & West game and will be out for the rest of the season.

Keeble was injured while making a tackle and ended up being stretchered off to hospital, where it was discovered he had fractured his tibia.

He underwent surgery in Oxford and will be out of the action for several months.

“It’s a massive blow,” said Didcot player-manager Andy Ballard.

“Andy’s a great player and a smashing bloke. But he’s already talking about playing for us next season.”

Before Keeble’s injury, Josh Dutton-Black and Mark Janes were denied good chances by questionable off-side decisions.

After Didcot’s George Reid was denied by keeper Jake Varney, the deadlock was broken on the half-hour.

Jack Self shot through a sea of players after a corner for his second goal of the season.

Chances were limited in a competitive second half.

Bridgwater’s only real effort came in the 80th minute when George Sinnot’s shot struck the bar, while Didcot’s Mark Janes hit a post from close in.
