WANTAGE Town eased their way into the first round of the Buildbase FA Vase with a comfortable 2-0 win at home to fellow Uhlsport Hellenic League side Lydney Tn.

Jack Dunmall opened the scoring on 27 minutes and Steve Robertson made it 2-0 nine minutes later.

The Alfredians’ reward is a tie at home to Western league side Cadbury Heath on Saturday October 21.

Wallingford Town suffered an agonising 2-1 defeat at home to Oxhey Jets in their first FA Vase tie for six years.

The Spartan South Midlands League visitors sealed the win with a freakish goal in extra time.

Nick Kerley put Oxhey in front before half-time following a quick break upfield.

Wallingford took control in the second half and deservedly equalised in the 85th minute when Brad Chalmers powered a header into the net from a corner.

Extra time saw Wallingford continue to dominate the play.

However, a rare sortie into the Wallingford box in the 100th minute saw Josh Noyes’s shot ricochet into the net for the winning goal.

Despite continued pressure, the hosts could not equalise.

There was also no joy either for Abingdon United, who bowed out of the Vase with a 2-0 defeat at home to another South Midland League side, Welwyn Garden City.

l Abingdon Women raced to their second successive 4-0 victory when they visited Chinnor Ladies in the Thames Valley League.

Despite missing several first-choice players including top scorer Amy Pipe, Abingdon eased home thanks to goals from Heather Young (2), Abbie Smith and Gina Ianniello-Phillips to maintain their 100 per cent record at the top of Division 1.
