GROVE were unable to build upon their opening day victory as they were beaten 29-15 at Towcestrians in South West 1 East.

A Mike Martin penalty put Grove into the lead, before the hosts scored three tries, two of which were converted, for 19-3.

Brendon White replied for the south Oxfordshire side, with Martin adding the extras for 19-10.

However, Towcestrians went on to score two more unconverted tries, before Grove’s Cash Chilvers dived over for a consolation at the end.

Grove welcome Maidenhead to Cane Lane on Saturday.

In Southern Counties North, Wallingford enjoyed an opening day victory with an 18-7 win at Aylesbury.

Pete McKinley crossed in the corner after 25 minutes and Wallingford led 10-0 at half-time as Conner Murphy finished well.

Tom Swainston’s penalty helped the visitors extend their lead and James Springer then picked off a pass and sprinted to the line for 18-0.

Aylesbury finally got on the scoreboard as James Woodfall converted his own try, but Wallingford were not to be denied.

Benny Davies starred with three tries as Abingdon beat Wheatley 46-8 in the BB&O Premier Division.

Gareth Smith, Stefan Dahle, Luke Matthews, Robert Tyreman and James Webb also crossed.

Dahle, Webb and Chris Stables converted a try each.

In the BB&O Championship, Harwell beat Aldermaston 28-0, but Faringdon lost 27-24 at home to Farnham Royal.
