QUALIFICATION for next year’s Open Championship is among the rewards within Eddie Pepperell’s reach as he looks to finish his best season on a high.

The Abingdon golfer tees off at the Turkish Airlines Open tomorrow and will play in the BMW Masters in China next month, followed by the World Tour Championship in Dubai.

All three Final Series events have big-name fields restricted to only the European Tour’s top players, offering big incentives in the form of prize money and ranking points.

While Pepperell has already surpassed his totals from 2014, the 24-year-old has his eyes on gaining entry to some big events next year if he can improve on his 33rd place in the Tour’s rankings.

He said: “If I have one very, very good week or two good ones I will make a lot of progress. The top 30 gets you into The Open next year, possibly the Nedbank Golf Challenge and maybe one or two WGC events, so there’s a few things to play for.”

Pepperell came tenth in Turkey last year. Since then the Frilford Heath golfer has come closer than ever to breaking his duck on Tour, finishing joint second at the Irish Open in May after losing out in a play-off.

He said: “If I win one of the next three events the outlook is so different. Then I would be in the top 50 and people would be saying ‘you are the next this or that’.”

l Frilford Heath secured the Section 2 title in the Shaw Gibbs Oxfordshire Foursomes League with a 2-1 home triumph over Oxford City, thanks to wins from Ashley Walton & Dean Newbold, and Gary Hamilton & Harry Richardson.
