WEST Ilsley trainer Mick Channon is set to go for Group 1 glory in France with Scrutineer after the colt’s success at Doncaster on Saturday.

The two-year-old romped home by six lengths in a seven-furlong nursery to cap a treble for Andrea Atzeni.

And now he is in line for a crack at the Criterium de Saint-Cloud at the Parisian track on Sunday.

Channon said: “I’m very excited.

“There’s a Group 1 at Saint Cloud. It seems like a logical next step.”

Scrutineer rounded off a good week for Channon, who also struck with Volunteer Point at Newmarket and Harlequin Rock at Windsor, both ridden by Charlie Bishop.

Sparsholt trainer Harry Whittington also racked up three winners – Arzal at Ludlow, Polstar at Wincanton and Bigmartre at Fontwell.

Back on the Flat, Nearly Caught (2-5 favourite) won by ten lengths for East Ilsley trainer Hughie Morrison in the mytotepool.com Phil Bull Trophy Conditions Stakes over two miles and two furlongs at Pontefract in the hands of Robert Havlin.

Morrison also struck with Last Tango Inparis, who opened her account in a mile maiden fillies’ stakes at Newbury under Liam Keniry.
