ABINGDON'S Gabriel Blythe recovered from an accident which left him hospitalised to claim victory at the Wallingford Festival of Cycling.

Just a day after receiving treatment for road rash and an elbow injury following an unavoidable accident in the British Cycling National Youth Circuit Series at Milton Keynes Bowl on Saturday, Blythe was back on his bike.

And he completed a remarkable recovery to win the Richard of Wallingford Cup at the annual festival.

It was a perfect response to the disappointment of having to retire from the national for the 16-year-old, who races for Abingdon-based Outdoor Traders Race Team.

The victory is Blythe's fifth of the year, in just his second year of competitive cycling, and with two further podium places and eight top ten finishes, he is now placed in the top 20 in the British Cycling national rankings for his category.
