BARRY Parker has become one of Britain’s oldest world champions –- at the ripe old age of 67.

Parker captured the Aunt Sally world title for the first time with a comfortable victory in the final over Chipping Norton’s Darren Cve at Charlbury.

Two years after losing in the final to Oxford’s Henry Johnson, Parker has finally made it to the top and become the first Abingdon player to do so.

Parker, who competes for Abingdon United in the Abingdon & District League, was delighted by his success.

“This means an awful lot to me,” said Parker. “I am very proud to become the first Abingdon to win the title.”

Parker is a sporting all-rounder, having been talented cricketer with Cowley St John and still plays golf off an eight-handicap at Frilford Heath.

But it is in Aunt Sally that he is now a world champion.

Meanwhile, DAVE Dix narrowly missed out on a sensational maximum when competing for Abingdon United B in the Abingdon & District League.

Dix struck 17 dolls (6, 5, 6) in their 6-0 whitewash victory over Abingdon RBL in the Premier Division.

Meanwhile, Spread Eagle beat Abingdon United 2-0 in the Eights final to claim the first silverware of the season.
