LILIA Gilbert may have been Didcot Barramundi’s youngest competitor, but she stole the show at the four-club BBAT ASA Level 3 gala at Aylesbury.
The eight-year-old, competing in her first gala, won ten gold medals and was nominated as the top girl of the day after helping Barramundi retain the trophy with a resounding victory against Aylesbury, Thame and Bourne End (Bucks).
Didcot’s Izzy Langley, 13, was runner-up to Gilbert, with points being awarded based on their times and race positions.
In the top boys award, Didcot’s Alfie Baum, 13, came third.
A record number of personal bests and club records were achieved by Didcot swimmers, much to the delight of head coach Iryna Kobzar and her assistants Claire Newell, Danny Amphlett and Derric Nimmo.
Gala result: 1 Didcot 1540pts, 2 Aylesbury 1402, 3 Thame 1283, 4 Bourne End 257.
