THERE was not a dry eye in the house after Felipe Massa crashed out of his final Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Grove-based Williams driver, who will compete in his 250th and final race in Abu Dhabi on November 27 before retiring, exited on lap 47.

Massa, draped in his national flag, was in tears as he took the acclaim of the home fans before he was given a guard of honour by rival teams in the pit lane as he returned to his garage.

And he admitted it was not the way he wanted to sign off in front of his adoring supporters.

“It was heartbreaking because I didn’t want it to finish like this,” said Massa.

“I wanted to finish with a good result for the fans, for Brazil, for my team, for me.

“Unfortunately I couldn’t. I had an amazing feeling with the fans and I couldn’t stop crying.”

He added: “It’s impossible to explain my feelings.

“I was just walking, in front of my people, with this amazing reaction. Not just from the fans, but from all the people in Formula 1 coming out to clap me.

“I never expected this. I will never forget this day.”

A disappointing race for Williams saw Valtteri Bottas finish 11th, all but ending their hopes of securing fourth place in the constructors’ championship.

l ALICIA Robinson has been crowned the 2016 A Class Ladies British Trial Champion.

Because of her age, the Didcot 14-year-old, who attends King Alfred’s Academy Wantage, had to get special permission to compete in the top youth category after winning the B Class title.

But she saw off older and more experienced rivals to land the crown.
