PEP Clotet knows there is a lot to learn about Oxford United – but the rivalry with Swindon Town is already on his radar.

While the new U’s manager only began work on Monday, it has taken him no time to appreciate the value of the relationship with the club’s big rivals.

Although Swindon’s relegation to Sky Bet League Two means only a cup draw will give him the opportunity to sample the special atmosphere next season, Clotet knows the recent history.

He said: “It’s my job to know the club.

“You will have to excuse me if I’m wrong but I think Oxford have beaten them the last seven times and haven’t lost in more than 15 years.

“I love the rivalries – I was lucky enough that my first game at Swansea was against Cardiff and we won that game 3-0.

“I felt ‘wow, this is something more than a game’.

“Unfortunately, I will not be able to (experience) one with Oxford in the league this season, but I’m well aware of this derby.”
