PEP Clotet has been pleased to see Kane Hemmings gain confidence at Mansfield Town, but the Oxford United boss has not yet decided on whether to recall the striker.

The U's have an option later this month to end the season-long deal early.

Hemmings took time to find his feet in Sky Bet League Two and an injury wiped him out for a month, but he scored twice in Monday's 3-1 win against Carlisle United.

It took his tally to seven goals in the last 12 appearances, which has not gone unnoticed.

Clotet said: "I’m watching very closely all the games he’s playing.

"Obviously during the transfer window we are having talks about whether it would be better to bring him (back) or keep him there scoring goals.

"At the minute he’s doing very well and is not only scoring but also playing at a good level helping his team.

"That’s the kind of player you want, that comes with a good momentum.

"But still it’s early for me to say."

United's decision is likely to be determined by their business during the January transfer window - and whether they feel there are better attacking options available.

While they weigh up whether to recall Hemmings, they are hoping to keep their loanees.

Jack Payne being brought back by Huddersfield Town is the main concern, but while Clotet knows nothing can be taken for granted this month, he remains upbeat.

He said: "I’m confident they will stay and I’m confident they’re happy.

"But I understand the needs of the parent club, sometimes they have other needs or think they can get a deal for that player somewhere.

"We have to respect that but at this moment I’m confident."
