JOHNNY Mullins has left Oxford United after his loan was ended by Rotherham United.

The Millers are facing an injury crisis, so exercised the 24-hour recall option on the defender's deal with the U's.

It is a significant blow for United, with Mullins one of their most consistent performers since joining last month.

The 27-year-old made eight appearances, scoring twice.

U's boss Chris Wilder said: "Johnny has done well for us but we understand the situation at Rotherham with injuries and their decision to recall both of their loan players.

"These things happen in football and we move on."

Michael Raynes, Harry Worley and Andy Whing are in contention to fill the gap in central defence for United's home game against Northampton Town on Saturday.

Disappointed but not surprised. Just surprised that Rotherham had not recalled him sooner. Oh well the conference draws even nearer. Somedays being a Oxford United supporter stinks.

This is a body blow. A real shame he's gone before Duberry gets back.
Whatever the arguments about performance levels, about bad luck, about injuries etc the plan truth is that our miserable season is characterised most by what I call our Martini defence; Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere, anyone can bloody score against us. Last night we again conceeded from an unchallenged header at a corner.
Last season on the back of solid defending,we edged plenty of games, picking up points when we didn't play well and were struggling to score. Ironicaly, this season we look pretty good going forward. But I would love to see us involved in a few more uneventful games with one nil wins!
