MICKEY Lewis thinks his first spell in caretaker charge at Oxford United was useful preparation in reprising the role this week.
He took over last weekend after Chris Wilder’s resignation, almost 15 years after stepping into the breach after Malcolm Shotton’s exit.
Lewis, who began a three-month spell with an 11-game unbeaten run, believes the previous experience stands him in good stead ahead of a first home game in charge against AFC Wimbledon tomorrow.
He said: “It definitely helps this time.
“It was thrown on me before. I was quite young and I think the time spent coaching and being in charge over the years just makes you more experienced with everything really.”
Although he is in charge, the 48-year-old is keen for the other staff to have an input in decisions.
“I have never been one to say I’m doing it my way and nothing else,” he said.
“What I’ve learned over the years is you really need to take a lot of opinions in.
“Obviously you make the final decision, but it’s something I’m really prepared to do and I will use all my staff.”
