The time has arrived for Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) branches across the country to start the Pub of the Year 2022 competition.

CAMRA's South Oxfordshire branch was the first one to reveal its contenders.

The branch took to Facebook to make the announcement and wished them the best of luck.

They wrote: “South Oxfordshire has eight great candidates this year - all wonderful pubs that are welcoming, inclusive, do great work for their communities, and of course, serve excellent ale”

The contenders are:

Bird in Hand Henley on Thames

The Crown Inn, South Moreton

Fleur De Lys, East Hagbourne

The lamb, Little Milton

The Plough Inn, Long Wittenham

The Plum Pudding, Milton

The Red Lion, Brightwell cum Sotwell

The Spire & Spoke, Watlington

Oxford and North Oxfordshire branches will announce their candidates soon.

Local CAMRA members will be visiting the pubs and voting to choose a winner by March 9.

Following this decision, the chosen pub will go forward to the county and, if chosen as winner, regional and national phases of the competition.

CAMRA is considered one of the most successful consumer organisations across Europe. Founded by real ale enthusiasts back in 1971.

Its mission is to promote and advocate for the production, availability and consumption of quality real ale, cider and perry; pubs and clubs as social centres and part of the UK’s cultural heritage; and the benefits of responsible social drinking.
