A CARE home in Wallingford enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a barbeque, live music, cakes and more.

Waterside Court, off Wallingford Road, hosted family, friends and members of the community on Saturday (4) at a garden party.

Residents were busy making decorations the week prior to the event which served bucks fizz on arrival before the hospitality team served up a barbeque.

Musician Lorna James, a swing and soul singer, performed while guests enjoyed an afternoon tea with home-baked cupcakes and a variety of finger sandwiches.

Home manager Maraya Rabuka said the event was “brilliant” and everyone had a lot of fun celebrating the Queen’s 70 year reign.

“Our staff and residents love the Queen,” she said. “So they were all so excited to take part in the weekend’s celebrations.

“It has been a real collaborative process - thinking about how we wanted to celebrate, planning our activities and decorating the home. 

“It was so lovely to be able to invite our friends and family to come and join us for a proper celebration too.”

One resident, named Pearl, added: “The Queen is an amazing lady, everyone wanted to get involved in the celebrations.

“It is remarkable to think she has been on the throne for 70 years, such an achievement. We have had lots of fun remembering her previous jubilee street parties.”
