THE Abingdon Marathon in returning this weekend meaning roads across the town will temporarily be closed.

It will take place on Sunday, October 23 from 9am and with a strict five-hour limit for the event it is due to finish at about 2pm.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the race which has an entry limit of 1,200 runners. It starts and finishes at Tilsley Park and the following road closures will be in place:

  • One way westwards between approximately 8.30am and 9.30pm on Dunmore Road from Wootton Road roundabout towards Tilsley Park on to Twelve Acre Drive, including closure of the roundabout junction of the Oxford Road roundabout with Dunmore Road and Twelve Acre Drive. Eastbound through-traffic prohibited and closure of the section of Radley Road from Audlett Drive to Thrupp Lane, Radley
  • Dunmore Road western end from Wootton Road to Tilsley Park will be one-way eastwards from 11am to 2pm.
  • Between approximately 8am and 1.15pm, Drayton Road to Brook Street to its junction with Church Street, Sutton Courtenay closed to the junction with Church Street and High Street
  • Between approximately 11am to 2pm the section of Dunmore Road from the B4017 Wootton Road eastbound lane to Tilsley Park closed. Traffic from side roads onto Dunmore Road will be required to turn left only during the closures.
  • Stop-Go boards will be used as required as follows between 8am to 1.15pm for Milton Road/High Street junction, Sutton Courtenay Harwell Road junction High Street and Sutton Road, and High Street, Abingdon junction West St Helens Street between 11am to 2pm
