A LARGE housing development is set to be approved by the planning authoirty near an Oxfordshire village.

A hybrid planning application has been submitted for 660 dwellings, 70 care units, a new primairy school and associated planning works for the land east of Kingston Bagpuize.

Lioncourt Stratgeic Land Ltd submitted the application to the Vale of White Horse District Council which will be making a decision at the meeting of the planning committee on January 25 with officers recommending it be approved.

The development, known as ‘Lioncourt Development LEKB’, was first submitted in 2020 but was rejected in the November due to air quality problems in the neighbouring village of Marcham.

Councillor Catherine Webber, who represents the Marcham Ward on the district council, is against the development stating it would increase traffic flowing through the village.

She said: “I had a meeting with the senior planning officer and the air quality officers as the Vale are now not objecting to this development on air quality and traffic issues.

“Their argument is that the readings of the air quality diffusion tubes on the Air Quality Management Areas (AQMA) show a fall in carbon emissions and are expected to continue falling with the improvement of engines, the disposal of old carbon-emitting vehicles and the use of more electric vehicles on the road.

“However, I am not happy with the predictions of the traffic flow in the AMA and have asked for a clear explanation from the highways officers.”
